Candlelit, Monday evenings
Yin yoga in Barnstaple
Yin is a slow, quiet practice of long-held, supported poses that gently open the body. At The Loft, Candlelit Yin runs on Monday evenings, an unhurried way to end the day.
Where a flowing class keeps you moving, Yin asks you to settle and stay. You hold each gentle shape for a few minutes, resting on bolsters and blocks so the body is fully supported, and let it slowly soften. It works quietly into the deeper tissue around the joints, especially the hips, where a busy life tends to hold on.
There is nothing to keep up with and nothing to get right. For a lot of people it's the class that finally lets the day go.
Candlelit Yin at the loft
Monday evenings, by candlelight. Slow and quiet, all levels, no experience needed. Long-held supported shapes for letting go, in a warm room up in the roof of Boutport Street. Come as you are after work and unwind into the start of the week.

If Yin is slow, Yoga Nidra is slower still. You lie down, covered and comfortable, and are guided through deep rest, often called yogic sleep. There are no poses at all, and no experience is needed. It runs on some Thursday evenings, alternating with Vinyasa.

What is yin yoga?
Yin is a slow, floor-based practice where you hold gentle, supported poses for a few minutes at a time. Instead of moving through a flow, you settle and stay, letting the body soften. It works quietly into the deeper tissue around the joints, especially the hips, and it's a calm counter to a busy day.
Is yin yoga good for beginners?
Yes. Candlelit Yin is an all-levels class and needs no experience. The poses are held and supported with props, so there is nothing to keep up with. If you're completely new, our guide for beginners is a good place to start.
What's the difference between Yin and Yoga Nidra?
In Yin you hold gentle poses; in Yoga Nidra you lie still and are guided through deep rest, often called yogic sleep, with no poses at all. Both are slow and calming. Yoga Nidra runs on some Thursday evenings, and Candlelit Yin on Monday evenings.
Do I need to be flexible?
No. Props hold you in each shape, so you never have to reach for anything. Flexibility is something the practice slowly gives you, not something you bring to it.
What should I bring, and what should I wear?
Comfortable, warm clothes and some layers. You cool down when you hold still, so it's worth having a jumper and socks to hand. Bring water and a mat if you have one, or rent one of ours for £1.
When is it on and how much does it cost?
Candlelit Yin is on Monday evenings. A class is £12 as a drop-in, or it's covered by any pass or the £30 intro month for new students. The timetable always shows the next one.
